Antique French Mystery Clock by A.R.Guilmet, Circa 1875
Antique French Mystery Clock by
A.R.Guilmet, Paris
Circa 1875
Guilmet, Paris, the movement stamped with his trademark 'GLT' and numbered 4203
The black marble case has gilt ring carrying handles to either side and rests on gilded paw feet.
The figure is a most attractive one of a female holding the gilt framed glass pendulum, standing on a gilded circular socle.
The gilt roman numerals are incised into the 4 inch stone dial.
The 8-day movement has outside countwheel striking, chiming the hours and the halves on a bell.
Guilmet took out the patents for his mystery clocks in 1867, 1872 & 1874. Their fascination lies in the fact that there is no apparent connection between the pendulum and the movement and that the statue and may be lifted off the clock and has no connection to it.
