Patent 19460 Titled the Empire Clock as the globe has all the British governed countries in this time coloured in red Brass circular base and turned cast column support the globe, dial and the ball on the screwed bent rod that represents the sun, the top finial with curved hour pointer. The 5.75 inch globe applied with twelve hand coloured gores annotated in English with countries, principal cities, major topographic features and steamer routes etc, with longitude and latitude lines. “Patent 19460, The Empire Clock, Cable” printed on an oval shaped label. The engraved dial serves as the equator and has black waxed Roman numerals for the night hours and red ones for the daytime. The eight day time only movement is housed in the base, has a lever escapement and is wound, set and adjusted from the base. Stamped on the bottom plate is, Made in France and 557'.Stamped on the bracket 'Brev. S.G.D.G'. These clocks were made in France for the British market and retailed by established firms like Smith and Sons.
